As companies organize international incentives and team buildings more and more frequently, it is normal that they get to the point where they feel like they have seen and done it all. If you are one of them, you probably ask yourself: "is there a new destination with exciting things to see and do that we never tried?" The truth is that destination exists and is very close to you - in Europe! Welcome to Serbia.
Belgrade, the Serbian capital city, has got it all - from a medieval fortress that has been up since the Roman times, all the way to the most modern venues, the city is filled with surprising places, sights and tastes. In today's globalized world, Belgrade keeps successfully branding itself as a new, authentic destination for incentives. Find below 3 things you can experience in Belgrade and nowhere else in the world!
1) Ride authentic Yugoslav cars from the 70's and 80's
Belgrade offers a whole new concept of old-timer car - one of which they are proud of since the times when the city was the capital of Yugoslavia. That's because it was during the Yugoslavian times that the Yugo, the Zastava 101 and the Zastava 705 were produced. Some of those cars won many international races, some of them were top-sellers even in the USA, some of them just made their way to the hearts of the people like no other car before. One thing they all have in common: they are a symbol of the good old times in the former Yugoslavia.
Tip: Nowadays, travelers can have those cars for special transfers or tours around the city.
Highlight: In the fleet, you will find quite a few Yugo Cabrio cars, which are very rare! Only 500 cabrios were ever built, 100 were exported to the USA and 25 were destroyed in crash tests.
2) Make your own rakia in a trendy urban distillery
Rakia (Serbian brandy) is by many considered to be Serbia's best known brand. After all, I don't think there ever was a person who came to Serbia and didn't try a "šljivovica" (plum rakia) or a "dunjevaca" (quince rakia). Now imagine having the chance of taking an active part in the whole rakia-making process from distillation, blending, bottling and finally labeling your own rakia? Sounds like too much? No problem! If you prefer, you can just taste different flavors of rakia and learn more about this drink that Serbs adore from a true specialist. That's not all... The distillery is located in lower Dorćol - an industrial zone that is turning into one of the coolest neighborhoods in the city, filled with trendy cafes, restaurants, clubs and bars, so you'll have plenty to do after leave the distillery!
Tip: The distillery is a modern, unusual location that can be used for organizing different kinds of events.
Highlight: If you are serious about rakia, you can store the rakia you make there for over 3 years in their barrel so they reach the best taste!
3) Ride former Yugoslavia's presidential train
Who said time travel doesn't exist? In Belgrade, it does! All you have to do is get inside a time capsule called "Blue Train" - a luxury train built in 1959 for official use of Mr. Josip Broz Tito, president of former Yugoslavia. Tito himself traveled over 600.000 kilometers in it and some of the most respected state officials worldwide traveled with him, such as Gandhi and Queen Elizabeth. It has everything the president needed: meeting rooms, a restaurant, bedrooms, living rooms...
Tip: The Blue Train can be rented for different kinds of private events and transfers. It's a creative way to get from point A to point B in Serbia, while having a meeting, a presentation or a nice lunch.
Highlight: The more adventurous could try taking the Blue Train on one of the most scenic railroads in the Balkans, from Belgrade to Bar (Montenegro).
